A dealer in animal skin commonly called “Kpomo,” Mr. Edwin Nwokoro, has allegedly beaten to death one Andrew Mbam, spouse of his customer, Mrs. Jennifer Mbam.
Nwokoro was said to have caused the death of 41-year-old Mbam last Friday, at Nwofe Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, when he went to recover his money from his wife.
A member of the bereaved family, Simeon Nwinyimagu, told Daily Sun that trouble started on September 11, as Nwokoro arrived at Mbam’s compound, asking to be paid the balance of N113,000, being the cost of goods he had supplied to Jennifer.
Surprisingly, when the creditor found out that the said money was not forthcoming, he became annoyed and attacked Jennifer’s husband, pushing him to hit his head on the concrete in the area.
It inflicted injuries on the man’s skull which allegedly led to his death.
Jennifer disclosed that she actually owed the animal skin dealer N248,000 initially, but later reduced the debt to N113,000 which she paid instalmentally. She lamented the dastardly manner her husband’s life was cut short by mere display of rage.
It was learnt that the deceased was rushed to the Mission Hospital at Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area, from where he was referred to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The matter was said to have been reported to the Izzi Divisional Police headquarters by Nwinyimagu, Mrs Jennifer and another family member, Ogbonna John.
Police Public Relations Officer of Ebonyi State Command, SP Chris Anyanwu, said the case had not reached his desk, perhaps, because preliminary investigation was ongoing at the division in charge of the area.
