Man bags 5 yrs jail for vandalizing solar light in A/Ibom

A 45 years old man, Ukeme  Obonukut has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for destroying solar street lights in Ukanafun local government , Akwa Ibom state .

Our Correspondent gathered that the solar lights were installed  along Baracks Road,  linking Idung Eka Uyo and Ikot Udo Abia within Ukanafun council area of the state .

It was also gathered  that the convict who hails from Ikot Udo Abia village, was  arrested in 2025, by vigilant youths while committing the crime and  handed over to the police for prosecution  before Magistrate’s Court on a two count charge bothering on conspiracy and vandalism with a charge sheet number: UKM/11c/2025.

Delivering judgement on the matter, the Chief  Magistrate in the area, Ifiok Ubom, found  the convict guilty  of commiting the crime.

He was consequently sentenced to five  years imprisonment without an option of fine.

“You are hereby,sentenced to five years imprisonment without option of fine . This will serve as a deterrent to others

“ This court also frowns  at action of some unpatriotic persons who engage in such act and I urged  the youths to always engage themselves in worthy venture”.

Reacting to the judgment, residents of the community commended the court  for delivering  good judgment on the unpatriotic citizen of the community.

“This is judgment well served  on the perpetrator of this crime  who does not wants to see light shine in our community.
