The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Ogunwande Sodiq, for raping an 18-year-old girl whom he threatened with a knife.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed this in a Wednesday statement.
Ayanlade said the alleged case of rape and threat to life occurred in the Iganna area of the state.
According to him, the survivor’s father reported to police that the suspect unlawfully broke into and gained entry into the room of his daughter, where he allegedly threatened her with a knife and forcefully raped her.
Following the report, the survivor was promptly rescued and taken to a medical facility, where she received appropriate medical care as well as socio-psychological evaluation and support. The prompt medical attention ensured her safety and well-being while the police initiated immediate action to apprehend the suspect.

“Subsequently, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.
“He has confessed to the crime and is cooperating with the police, facilitating the ongoing investigation.
“To preserve the integrity of evidence, detectives from Iganna Division visited the scene, took photographs, and recovered exhibits, including a knife and the affected bedsheet, which were secured as evidence,” the statement reads in part.
Ayanlade said due to the sensitive nature of the case, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has directed that the matter be transferred to the Command Gender Desk, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation, ensuring due process and careful handling.
He noted that the suspect would be formally charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
