Man arrested for raping intoxicated minor in Oyo

A 22-year-old man, Daniel Ajibola, has been arrested by police in Oyo for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl after giving her an intoxicating drink.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed this in a Tuesday statement.

Ayanlade said around 7pm on December 25, Alakia Adelubi Division received a report of sexual assault on a 17-year-old female.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the male suspect, Daniel Ajibola ‘M’, aged 22, allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor after administering an intoxicating drink to her.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime,” the statement reads in part.

The police spokesman disclosed that the victim was promptly taken to a hospital for medical examination, while the scene of the incident was visited and the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

“In line with the seriousness of the offence, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.

“He further warned that the Command will not tolerate any violent acts against women or offences targeted at women or any member of the society, and directed that the suspect be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement further reads.
