Man, 39 in trouble over alleged illegal sale of hard drugs

Court

A 39-year-old man, Emmanuel Okeke, has appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged sale of hard drugs.

Okeke was arraigned by the police before Magistrate L.K.J. Layeni, on a three-count charge of illegal sale of hard drugs, threat to life, and causing a breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 24, 2025 at New Planet Resort, located at Aka Road, in Ajangbadi.

He alleged that the defendant unlawfully sold banned narcotics at the hotel, in spite of several warnings from the management to desist from such practices.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace and disturb the customers by selling drugs like ice, hemp, and molly in the hotel.

He alleged that the defendant also threatened to kill one Mr. Sunday Nwobodo, Director of the hotel, because he had restrained him from selling the drugs on the hotel’s premises.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Uche also alleged that the defendant had tarnished the image of the said director by publicly calling him a murderer and a ritualist.

The offence contravenes the provisions of Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Layeni adjourned the case until April 24, 2025, for hearing.
