Man, 27, in the dock for allegedly stealing phone

A 27-year-old man, Durosomo Usman, on Friday, stood before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan to answer charges bordering on alleged stealing of a phone.

Usman, whose address was not provided, is a standing trial on charges of obtaining a phone under false pretences and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Cpl. David Adepoju told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in August at the Agbokojo area of Ibadan.

He alleged that the defendant had obtained an Infinix phone from one Aisha Akinyegun, under the pretence of using same to snap a fashion style from his customer.

He alleged that the defendant instead made away with the phone and converted it to his personal use.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was later arrested following police investigations.

The phone is worth N180, 000.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Kausarat Ayofe granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one reliable surety in like sum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that she consequently adjourned the case until February 16, 2026, for hearing.
