The former minister, further speaking, highlighted that the country is sliding into anarchy owing to insecurity problems that have not been addressed, leading to hunger and starvation. He said that as an incoming minister, during his screening before distinguished senators, the issue of insecurity was top among his ideas as it affects the entire economy. “I told them that at the Senate. And at that time it had not gotten to this stage. And nobody listened to me or took it seriously. Today it has become a monster amongst us.”
On the politics of violence, he said that Nigerian politics should be free of violence. “Going to the Senate offers me an opportunity to also focus on the discussion and how the violence and politics across borders. What was the politics of violence? It is that the life of one is not worth dying in political violence. And if you are not alive, you shouldn’t be there. That’s why you should take the lives of others to be sacred. So I want to come back to the platform and be able to again, both of my constituents and professionals. And I think we’ve had medals. And so the politics of violence must end as we pray the conflict is no more for the future of others and the future of this country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maku said the Labour Party remains a party platform to mainstream the desired political system, adding that the days of locusts are gone and that it is time for the party to settle down and restructure.
