Nigeria’s U20 boys’ team, the Flying Eagles, have kicked off preparations for the upcoming WAFU B U20 Championship with Head Coach Abdu Maikaba inviting 35 players to camp in Abuja.

The tournament, scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire in July, will mark the beginning of a new era for the seven-time African champions under Maikaba, who recently took charge of the team.

The invited squad comprises three goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 11 midfielders and 11 forwards drawn from clubs within Nigeria and overseas.

All invited players are expected to report to camp in the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday, May 16, as preparations intensify for the regional competition.

Among the notable names invited are Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Clinton Lawani, Croatia-based Abubakar Rufai, Spain-based defender Wahab Bolanle Musa, FC Alaves forward Imrana Mohammed and FC Rijeka midfielder Simon Karshe Cletus.

The squad also features players from Nigeria Premier Football League sides including Kano Pillars, Katsina United, Akwa United and Warri Wolves.

Maikaba is expected to use the WAFU B Championship as part of efforts to build a competitive squad capable of restoring the Flying Eagles’ dominance on the continent.
