The leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for inviting it to attend a quarterly consultative meeting with political parties.

In a statement on Thursday, the Nenadi Usman-led Interim National Working Committee (INWC) said INEC had acted in compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on 21st January 2026, following the recognition of Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the interim national chairman and national secretary.

The party noted that while INEC had earlier complied with the judgment of the Federal High Court by publishing Senator Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha’s names on its official portal, this singular invitation further affirms and accords full legitimacy to the current leadership of the party.

The Labour Party, therefore, commended the present leadership of INEC, led by Prof Joash Amupitan, for its steadfast adherence to the rule of law. As a minister in the temple of justice, his leadership skills, which the party said were evident at the meeting, have proven him to be a round peg in a round hole.

While the crisis that previously rocked the Labour Party was protracted and torturous, the party said it was pleased that this unfortunate chapter had now been firmly laid to rest. The Labour Party expressed profound gratitude to its teeming supporters for their patience, resilience, and unwavering faith in the party; to the media for their professionalism and courage in standing on the side of truth; and to all lovers of democracy in Nigeria who stood by the party throughout the trying period.

The Labour Party reiterated its commitment to democratic values, internal cohesion, and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders in the advancement of Nigeria’s democracy.
