Labour Party (LP) candidate for Igbo Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 election, Mr. Chinedu Eya, has congratulated Dr. Ejike Alumona on his emergence as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while reaffirming his intention to remain in the race ahead of the January 16, 2027 general election.
In a statement yesterday, Eya described Alumona as a friend and associate and wished him success in his campaign.
The LP candidate, however, maintained that he remains his party’s duly nominated candidate and would continue to seek the mandate of voters across the constituency.
Eya stated that although he had previously considered withdrawing from the contest in the interest of political unity and the collective aspirations of the constituency, he had resolved to continue his campaign and present his plans directly to the electorate.
He said the forthcoming election should be viewed as a contest of ideas and leadership qualities rather than personal rivalry, stressing the importance of competence, integrity, capacity and vision in determining who represents the constituency.
According to him, the leading contenders in the race, including himself, Alumona of the NDC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr. Johnson Ogbugo, share longstanding personal relationships and come from the same Ozzii extraction.
Eya urged supporters across party lines to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the campaign period, calling for issue-based engagements and mutual respect among political actors.
He appealed to campaigners to focus on persuading voters through facts and policy alternatives rather than personal attacks.
Outlining his priorities, Eya said his campaign would focus on quality representation, youth economic empowerment, infrastructure development, education, security and legislative advocacy for residents of Igbo Eze North and Udenu Federal Constituency.
He also reflected on the role of the Labour Party in the political development of many leaders who have since joined other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), NDC and PDP.
Eya expressed confidence that a Labour Party victory in the constituency would strengthen the party’s position and encourage former members to return to what he described as its foundational ideals of justice, equity and people-centred leadership.
The Labour Party candidate pledged to continue his campaign peacefully and with integrity, while extending goodwill to fellow contestants and their supporters.
He called on eligible voters across the constituency to participate actively in the January 16, 2027 election and make their choices based on their assessment of the candidates and their programmes.
Eya expressed confidence that voters would support what he described as a vision of competent, experienced and purposeful representation for the constituency.
