LP addresses INEC concerns ahead of States, LG congresses

Labour Party

From Idu Jude, Abuja

The leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman- led Interim National Working Committee (INWC) says it has addressed in full the concerns of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC ahead of its proposed states and local government congresses nationwide.

A press statement signed by Barrister Ken Asowga, media aide to Senator Nenadi Usman, over the weekend, highlighted the party’s resolve to comply with the directives and corrections from the INEC.

Recall that preparatory to the congresses, the INEC had written to the Senator Nenadi Usman-led INWC to ensure that its activities are fully in line with relevant electoral guidelines.

Meanwhile, the party had warned its faithful against rumours in circulation discrediting its activities and misinforming the public about INEC correspondents to the party ahead of its congresses.

The letter further reads, “Following the communication from INEC, the leadership of the Party has, in full compliance with the Party’s Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the relevant INEC guidelines, taken all the necessary steps to conclusively address the concerns raised by the Commission.

“Ordinarily, the Party chose to ignore the beer-parlour gossip being peddled by some discredited former members of the Party concerning the said letter by INEC.

However, in light of the numerous inquiries from Party members across the federation and other stakeholders seeking clarification on the current state of affairs, we consider it necessary to issue this statement.

“The Labour Party wishes to inform the general public that those attempting to recycle and regurgitate the old INEC letter are disgruntled and politically irrelevant former members of the Party who are desperately clutching at every available straw in a futile effort to create confusion and mislead the public.

“The Party therefore urges members of the public and our teeming supporters across the country to continue to actively participate in the ongoing membership revalidation and new registration exercise. Party members are also encouraged to prepare for the forthcoming Party Congresses and National Convention as scheduled.

“While urging members of the public and the media to disregard the antics of certain mischievous elements who continue to shamelessly throw tantrums in public, the Labour Party, under the able leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, wishes to reassure its members that the current leadership remains focused, on course, and will not be distracted by the fringe activities of a few discredited individuals”.
