The Board of LOTUS Bank has announced a major leadership transition with the appointment of Dr. Isiaka Ajani-Lawal as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective December 2025.

The appointment follows the retirement of the bank’s founding Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Kafilat Araoye, marking the close of a distinguished tenure that delivered strong growth, operational stability, and brand credibility for the ethical banking institution.

Araoye, who was appointed pioneer MD/CEO of LOTUS Bank, played a central role in establishing the institution and steering it through its formative years. Under her leadership, the bank successfully launched operations as a fully licensed non-interest bank in 2021 and later upgraded its regional banking licence to a national licence in 2023, a milestone that significantly expanded its operational footprint. During her tenure, LOTUS Bank rolled out customer-focused, technology-driven financial services, built a trusted brand anchored on transparency, integrity, and corporate social responsibility, and promoted financial literacy while expanding access to ethical finance across Nigeria. These initiatives translated into strong financial and operational performance.

The bank’s balance sheet grew from N30 billion in 2021 to N360 billion in 2024, while customer accounts expanded dramatically from about 13,000 at inception to over 960,000 by June 2025.

In addition, LOTUS Bank’s branch network expanded to more than 55 branches nationwide, reinforcing its presence across key markets.

Commending the outgoing MD/CEO, Chairperson of the Board of LOTUS Bank, Mrs. Hajara Adeola, praised Araoye’s leadership and impact on the institution’s growth trajectory.

“Mrs. Araoye’s leadership was marked by integrity, foresight, and impact. She shaped LOTUS Bank into a fast-growing, value-driven institution. As we welcome Dr. Isiaka Ajani-Lawal as MD/CEO, we are confident of his ability to uphold the Bank’s values while advancing its strategic vision,” Adeola said.

Dr. Ajani-Lawal brings over 25 years of experience in banking and financial services to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as Executive Director, Operations and Technology at LOTUS Bank, where he played a critical role in streamlining processes, deploying innovation-driven systems, and strengthening regulatory and governance frameworks.

He holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Liverpool, alongside several academic and professional qualifications. Ajani-Lawal is widely regarded as a result-oriented professional with deep expertise in strategy formulation and execution, risk management, customer relationship management, credit administration, sales and marketing, and business development.

Speaking on his appointment, Ajani-Lawal said: “I am honoured to lead LOTUS Bank at this important moment in our journey. I remain committed to delivering on our mission to redefine banking through ethical, inclusive, and digitally focused services. I look forward to working with our dedicated team to build on the solid foundation laid by Mrs. Araoye and take LOTUS Bank to greater heights.”
