The 3rd Scientific Conference of the African Society of Dermatology and Venereology (ASDV) and 16th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD), which were held as a joint event of medical doctors who are skin specialists provide the right forum for the formal presentation of Cerave, a specialised skincare brand of the Loreal Active Cosmetic Division (ACD), at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Cerave is a skincare brand developed in 2005 by Loreal ACD in collaboration with dermatologists, to achieve the primary aim of restoring the skin’s natural protective barrier while combating other skin care concerns.
With a unique blend of three essential ceramides and the distinct MVE technology, which slowly releases the ingredients of the enriched formula into the skin, Cerave achieves effective 24hour hydration of the skin after just one use. Water gives the skin its elastic and supple look. However, there are lipids in the intercellular spaces of the stratum corneum, which provide a permeability barrier to prevent water loss from the skin. The lipids composing the barrier include ceramides, cholesterol and long chain saturated fatty acids.
Ceramide-containing moisturizers have been clinically proven to be effective on patients with dry and/or inflammatory, very dry and atopic skin, to increase skin hydration, reduce transepidermal water loss and improve clinical signs and symptoms. Furthermore, they are superior to paraffin based moisturizers in preserving the superior skin barrier function.
In addition to three skin-identical ceramides, all Cerave products contain hyaluronic acid, which locks in moisture, as well as glycerin and fatty acids, which hydrate the skin.
For dermatologists, the unveiling of Cerave was a great opportunity to hear straight from the Country Representative of Loreal Active Cosmetic Division, Beatrice Eneh and Prof Tahir T Mohammed (NAD, President); Dr Perpetua Ibekwe (Secretary; and Dr Erere Otrofanowei (Treasurer) and Professor Abel Onunu (President, ASDV).
The theme of the conference, titled, ‘Enhancing Evidence-based Dermatology Practice in an era of Globalization’ was well suited for the presentation done by of Loreal and further elaborated on by Loreal Active Cosmetic Division Partner in Nigeria, Beatrice Eneh during a discussion forum.
The forum drew active participation by paediatricians, medical students, nurses and other people from the scientific community, who found the sessions educative and informative.
Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ipalibo Gogo Banigo, a medical doctor, who visited the Laroche Posay Booth to experience a range of the Laroche Posay Brand. She expressed joy that the Laroche range would henceforth be available in Nigeria. Mrs. Banigo commended Eneh and her team for all the effort they put into organising the presentation adjudged to be a great outing.
Eneh assured dermatologists of the brand’s continuous availability at all pharmacies and medical centres nationwide.
