•Council chairman, VC kept mute on his status

A document showing the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun employed himself before leaving office has emerged.

The document titled list of new staff of Lagos State University contains 129 names of academic and non-teaching staff.
The list of new staff of the university includes names of union leaders relations.
Investigations by The Education Report revealed that the list did not go through the Governing Council of LASU as required by law of the institution.
The former VC, Prof. Fagbohun is listed number 40 as Professor Law.
Some internal governing council members told The Education Report that the list was not presented to council for approval and that it emerged a few months before the end of Fagbohun’s tenure.
The Education Report gathered that when the list emerged in circulation on campus, it generated ripples among academic and non-teaching staff.
Recalled that Prof. Fagbohun left as a staff of LASU to the National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) and returned as the vice chancellor in 2018.
Rather than return to NIALS, Fagbohun worked for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in charge of coordinating workshops for the fund with beneficiary institutions.
Investigations by The Education Report revealed that the Lagos State Government early this year attempted to force Prof. Fagbohun on LASU as a staff.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and the governing council opposed the imposition from Alausa until December 15, 2023 when the university through a statement said Prof. Fagbohun has resumed work after his sabbatical.
The VC and council chairman, Sir David Sunmoni, who had early resisted Fagbohun’s return, were mandated from Alausa to officially receive him, which was a breach of protocol.
Many Professors in the Nigerian University System (NUS) go on sabbatical approved by the VC and return quietly without the kind of protocol accorded to Fagbohun.
The governing council chairman, Sir Sunmoni and LASU VC, Prof. Olatunji-Bello did not respond to questions on the status of Fagbohun with NIALS, who approved his sabbatical, are both aware of the list containing his name and why the rousing welcome accorded him when many Professors quietly returned unannounced.
