Lionel Messi has signed a multi-year contract extension with Inter Miami, keeping him in South Florida until the end of the 2028 MLS season. This is believed to be his final professional deal.
The financial parameters of the agreement were not mentioned in Miami’s statement on Thursday, although Messi has been MLS’s highest-paid player by far since joining the team in the summer of 2023.
His initial contract offered him more than $20 million in guaranteed income each year, more than the total payroll of about two-thirds of the 30-team league by 2025.

His contract also includes stock in the team whenever he retires as a player.
The extension will theoretically keep Messi under contract until he is 41 years old.
“It makes me really happy to stay here and to continue with this project that, besides being a dream, has become a beautiful reality – playing in this stadium, at Miami Freedom Park,” Messi said in the announcement.
“Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been very happy, so I’m truly glad to keep going here.”
