Ahead of the upcoming Local Government elections in Lagos State, two chairmanship aspirants under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been accused of possessing and using multiple Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The concerned aspirants are Mr. Alogba Babawale and Mr. Azeez Lamina Oshoala, who are both contesting for the Chairmanship positions of Ikorodu West and Ikorodu North, respectively. Aggrieved party supporters, however, discovered that they are not residents of Ikorodu.
They further accused them of voter fraud by possessing and using multiple Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
A formal petition, submitted to the Lagos APC chairman, the state deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, among others by legal counsel, Chukwuyem Atewe Esq on behalf of Mr. Jinadu Oshinleye, a concerned citizen of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, directly accuses Mr. Aroyewun of violating the Electoral Act.
The petition alleged that Aroyewun was initially registered in Ward Ijede J, under Polling Unit 24-12-13-006, the credentials he used while contesting for the Ikorodu Constituency II seat in the 2023 Lagos State House of Assembly elections. However, the petition claims that he is now contesting for the Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA Chairmanship using a different registration under Polling Unit 24-12-09-009 in Igbogbo and that the new PVC tied to this unit cannot be verified on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
“This constitutes multiple registrations, a clear breach of Section 12(3) of the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines,” the petition stated.
The petitioner also pointed to similar cases of disqualification due to irregularities during previous APC screenings, referencing the Ajeromi/Ifelodun LGA screening process as a precedent.
