A group under the auspices of All Middle Belt Youth Forum, (AMBYF), has called Lawyers United Against Corruption, (LUAC), to stop causing a distraction but to let the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono, concentrate on his duties.
The group stated this in a statement signed by the group’s National leader and Secretary, Comr. Moses Odeh and Aliyu Tiga Wamba, respectively and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Thursday.
AMBYF, an independent command organ of the Middle Belt, was reacting to what thy described as a “callous ultimatum” given to Arc. Sonny Echono by the group to abdicate his position as the Executive Secretary of TETFund within five days.
The Middle Belt group insisted that the sole aim of LUAC is to destabilise TETFund.
“We should have ignored them but in order to set the record straight we say it is very unfortunate that the revered legal profession is been bastardised by some individuals.
“As Lawyers, they should know that TETFund under Arc. Sonny Echono does not award contracts, rather it only makes allocations to various institutions of higher learning which in turn awards contracts based on extant laws and regulations.
“So how can anyone hold Arc. Sonny Echono liable for corruption in awards of contracts he knows nothing about?”
AMBYF who described their act as mischief said such blackmail will never work as it is a fabrication to frustrate Echono out of office to pave the way for their sponsor who has his eyes at the plum position.
They said LUAC, while trying to give the dog a bad name to hang it should look elsewhere for corrupt practices saying Echono is not corrupt as he was appointed to the position by President Muhammadu Buhari because he is eminently qualified for the job.
“We want Lawyers United Against Corruption to know that this their smear campaign and next move against Arc. Sonny Echono will be resisted in a civil manner, you should leave Arc. Sonny Echono alone.”
They called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore the faceless group as their claims were baseless and the Security Agencies especially the DSS to go after them and bring them to book as they are agents of destabilization.
