Leaked documents have reportedly debunked allegations by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), that Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh orchestrated the arrest and prosecution of businessman Hameed Tajudeen Akanbi over alleged double murder charges in a bid to seize a disputed property in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.
The documents, obtained at the weekend, indicated that police officers deployed to the disputed property were carrying out lawful duties aimed at maintaining law and order following petitions submitted to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police by the property’s developers, whose identities were withheld.
At the time the petitions were submitted, Jimoh was serving as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
According to the documents, the developers wrote separate petitions to the IGP on December 5, 2025, and to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police on January 20, 2026, through their solicitors. In the petitions, they sought police protection, alleging threats to their lives, criminal breach of trust, fraudulent extortion and persistent interference with their property.
The petitioners stated that they possessed valid Contracts of Sale and Lagos State Government Consent confirming their ownership of the land following a settlement reached in 2022 with the original landowners.
They further alleged that Akanbi, who introduced himself to them in 2019 as a land consultant, fraudulently acquired more than 40 plots of land located along Orchid Road, Alpha Beach Road and Agungi between 2019 and 2020 through false representations.
According to the petitions, Akanbi also presented another parcel of land along Chevron Drive as belonging to his family, a claim the developers said was later contradicted after they reached a settlement with the actual owners of the property.
The petitioners further claimed that despite paying Akanbi about ₦1.5 billion in settlement of his demands, he allegedly mobilised armed thugs who invaded the site, assaulted workers and disrupted ongoing construction.
Photographs attached to the petitions reportedly showed inscriptions spray-painted on the perimeter fence of the property, including the words: “THIS LAND IS NOT FOR SALE, BEWARE OF 419,” alongside claims that the land belonged to the Ojomu Royal Family.
Based on these developments, the developers requested police protection to enable them remove the inscriptions and prevent further invasion of the property. They also urged the police to restrain Akanbi and his associates from further interference.
The controversy resurfaced after VeryDarkMan released an audio recording purportedly containing a conversation between Akanbi and one Akin Fakorede, in which one of the speakers alleged in Yoruba that Jimoh was responsible for deploying police officers to the disputed land.
The influencer subsequently alleged that the deployment was part of a plan by Jimoh to take over the property and falsely implicate Akanbi in the killings of Sheriff Ishola in April 2023 and Demola Akinloye in August 2024, both in Ajiran, Eti-Osa.
However, sources familiar with the investigation insisted that the leaked petitions contradicted those allegations, maintaining that the police deployment was based solely on complaints received from the developers.
Jimoh, now the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, has consistently maintained that the murder investigations were evidence-based. According to him, suspects arrested in connection with the killings made statements allegedly implicating Akanbi as the sponsor of the attacks.

The businessman was subsequently declared wanted and later returned to Nigeria through INTERPOL processes to face prosecution.
Sources close to the matter also dismissed allegations that Jimoh benefited from the disputed land, insisting that the senior police officer neither demanded nor received money, land or any other form of gratification from the petitioners.
“The developers have repeatedly stated that they did not know Jimoh before submitting their petitions. He simply acted professionally by providing security based on their complaints. He neither collected money nor acquired any land. The property belongs to the petitioners, and the deployment of policemen prevented an alleged attempt by thugs to forcibly take over the land,” a source said.
The source described the allegations against the AIG as a calculated attempt to blackmail and intimidate him from carrying out his statutory responsibilities.
“They believe he refused to compromise, and that is why some individuals have resorted to social media campaigns to tarnish his reputation,” the source added.
Jimoh had earlier denied allegations of corruption, insisting that he neither collected money nor property from anyone in connection with the matter.
He challenged anyone with credible evidence against him to present it before a competent court or submit it to Akanbi’s legal team for use in the ongoing criminal trial.
The AIG further stated that no amount of pressure or blackmail would deter him from performing his lawful duties, maintaining that the police possessed sufficient evidence capable of sustaining prosecution against Akanbi and other defendants standing trial in the case.
Meanwhile, police sources have also dismissed attempts to link Jimoh to the investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, describing such claims as “ignorant, mischievous and unintelligent.”
According to the sources, Mohbad died in September 2023, and investigations commenced immediately before the matter was referred to the Lagos State Coroner’s Court. The case was later transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.
They pointed out that throughout that period, Jimoh was neither serving at the Lagos State Police Command nor at the FCID, stressing that he had no involvement whatsoever in the investigation.
“Jimoh only assumed office as Lagos State Commissioner of Police on February 18, 2025, long after the Mohbad case had been taken to court. Even then, when some groups protested at the Lagos Command demanding justice, he personally addressed them, assured them of the police’s commitment to justice, and explained that once a matter is before the court, the police are bound by due process.
“He even provided water and soft drinks for the protesters while explaining the legal position. So, attempts to associate him with the Mohbad investigation are nothing but deliberate mischief,” one of the sources said.
