Lagos Country Club (LCC) over the weekend held its 2026 New Year party and called for integrity in governance, promising to continue on the path of sound administration, transparent processes and mutual respect.
The call was made the President of the club, Mr. Seyi Adewunmi, during his welcome address. He described the party as a triumphant return to harmony following internal challenges that forced a pause in celebrations in 2025. He noted that the presence of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu signified alignment and mutual respect between the state and one of its most influential institutions.
He outlined the club’s priorities for 2026, including integrity in governance, improved member experience, infrastructure renewal and strategic partnerships. He also appealed to the governor for support towards major development projects, particularly the proposed Youth and E-Sports Section (YES).
However, Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho had earlier underscored the state’s resilience and enduring spirit, describing the club as a mirror of the state’s capacity to overcome challenges and emerge stronger.
Drawing parallels between Lagos State and the LCC, the governor noted that both institutions faced significant challenges in the outgoing year but demonstrated courage, unity and an uncommon ability to rebound.
“Just like this club, Lagos State went through a lot in 2025,” the Governor said, recalling major incidents including the Christmas Eve fire at the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House and a tragic boat accident days later. “Yet, we chose to look at the bright side of life and to keep moving forward.”

He highlighted several milestones achieved by the state despite the setbacks, including hosting the E1 Lagos Grand Prix, Africa’s first all-electric powerboat race, and GITEX, one of the world’s largest technology exhibitions, both of which, he said, were adjudged the best editions ever by their organisers.
According to the governor, these achievements, alongside the global attention drawn by Lagos’ “Detty December” tourism boom, reflected the same resilience, innovation and can-do spirit that define the LCC.
“I want members to continue to see this club as a symbol of unity, harmony and endurance – values that Lagos State itself stands for,” he said, adding prayers for the club’s continued growth and stability.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Aare Kola Oyefeso, called for unity, tolerance and commitment to the club’s collective interest, stressing that while members were entitled to express dissent, such actions must always serve the institution’s long-term stability and dignity.
The event was attended by royal fathers, including the Akarigbo of Remo and the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo. The night culminated in music, dance and celebration, with legendary juju maestro, King Sunny Ade entertaining members and guests.
