Popular televangelist, Apostle Michael Orokpo has revealed that he recently sacked his media team for various issues including laxity, lack of initiative and negligence.
The Founder of Encounter Jesus Ministries International disclosed this during a sermon, a clip of which is making the rounds on social media.
“Recently, I shut down the media department and sacked everybody,” he said.
Orokpo noted that although they joined as volunteers, he decided to put them on salary since they were young people.
The cleric said the least earner went home with N100,000 monthly with some earning as much as N250,000.
Instead of being appreciative, he said, they began to complain about workload while showing general lack of dedication to the job.
In one instance, the Abuja-based preacher said, “I went live on Global Prayer Watch. It was skipping for 45 minutes. Nobody had the intelligence to say, ‘Please we are sorry for the break in transmission. We will be back shortly’.
“Meanwhile, there’s nobody in that unit that earns less than N100,000. They came as volunteers but I said, ‘They are young people. I’ll place them on salary’. Some earn N250,000. Some earn N200,000. Some earn N100,000.
“We have four video editors. Every week, I stream live on Tuesdays and Sundays.
“All they do within the week is to make video clips. Guess what, they complained that the work is much.
“I said maybe you should try a bank. Maybe you should try the Army. Find out how much they pay those soldiers who are fighting war.”
Orokpo recounted how one member of the team got an expensive laptop damaged.
He said, “Recently, somebody said he was drinking tea and the tea poured on an Alienware laptop and the motherboard got burnt.
“He expected that because it’s church, he comes and says, ‘Apostle, I’m sorry. It’s highly regrettable. I take responsibility.’
“I said, ‘Do you know the meaning of I take responsibility? That means you’ll pay for it.’
“He didn’t have the money. His salary is N120,000. His job is just to upload video content but he’s destroying a laptop worth almost N3 million because he was taking tea on duty.
“Do you know that itself is a sanctionable offence? You’re not the owner of a business. Who told you you can take tea on duty?
“If you take action, they’ll go online and say all these churches are using people.
“I have more than 50 staff. So, I’m talking to you from experience. Laxity. When you’re training them, some of them are frowning…
“I have more staff than a bank. I told them to reapply. They are all on probation for two months without pay. If you’re tired, go.
“I’d rather outsource the media (unit) to a media company.”
