Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure and Development, Mr Ekundayo Dayo Alebiosu, has said the state’s waterfront development agenda is guided strictly by law, vision and effective planning, not politics or personal connections.
Alebiosu, at an interactive session with journalists, stressed that competence and clear intent, rather than sentiments or political considerations, underpin government decisions in the waterfront sector.
“The waterfront is a technical space. Our focus is on law, planning and development. It is not about politics or where anyone comes from,” he said.
The commissioner cautioned against attempts to politicise professional appointments and policy decisions, noting that such actions could undermine sustainable development.
Alebiosu, a former member of the House of Representatives, said waterfront development opportunities exist across Lagos and should be pursued with vision rather than suspicion.
“There is water in Kosofe. If development can happen in Ilashe, it can happen elsewhere,” he said, citing Ilashe as an example of an area transformed through deliberate planning and targeted investment.
He explained that his approach prioritises long-term impact over short-term gains.
“The mind is the most fertile ground in the world; whatever you drop there will grow,” he added.
On social interventions, the commissioner emphasised the need to separate governance and humanitarian efforts from political interests.
He said he preferred discreet assistance to public displays.
“Why would you come to me privately for help and then I turn around to publicise it? That does not make sense to me,” Alebiosu said.
According to him, the state has adopted an evidence-based approach to humanitarian support, ensuring accountability and transparency.
“We now raise funds collectively, engage directly and ask for proof that the need is real,” he said.
Alebiosu called for constructive criticism and warned against deliberate provocation and destructive commentary, reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s commitment to lawful waterfront development, responsible governance and interventions driven by accountability, intent and long-term value.
