The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) chapter, has suspended its four-month-old industrial action following an emergency congress held on Monday, December 1, 2025.

In a statement yesterday, the association said the decision was taken after a comprehensive review of the progress made so far in negotiations with the university management on the full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for medically qualified lecturers.

According to the congress resolution, only the basic component of CONMESS has been paid to members, while all associated allowances, part of the full package, remain outstanding. Arrears dating back to January 2025 also remain unpaid.

Despite these gaps, NAMDA said the strike, which began on July 31, was suspended “in good faith” to enable continued dialogue with the management.

The congress approved a monitoring framework to periodically assess the university’s level of compliance. NAMDA warned that any future escalation would depend strictly on the actions or inaction of LAUTECH authorities.

Academic activities officially resumed on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 8am.

The association said its decision was influenced by several factors, including appeals from the general public, assurances from the Governing Council, and interventions from the Oyo State Commissioner for Education.

NAMDA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the academic progression of medical students and ensuring stability in the medical program, even as negotiations continue for full CONMESS implementation.

The union’s leadership expressed profound appreciation to members for their “unwavering support, resilience, and unity” throughout the four-month industrial action.
