LASTMA rescues 3 victims as truck crashes in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued three victims and restored traffic flow following a multiple-vehicle collision along LASU-Isheri Road at Iyana School, inward Igando, after a MACK flatbed truck suffered brake failure and rammed into a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles.

According to the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the truck driver lost control following a catastrophic brake failure before violently colliding with the other vehicles, triggering a serious multi-vehicle crash.

LASTMA personnel on routine patrol within the corridor responded immediately, activating the Agency’s emergency response protocol.

Their swift intervention rescued the trapped victims, prevented secondary collisions and restored orderly traffic flow along the affected route.

Working with officers of the Iba Police Division, the Agency coordinated the evacuation of the damaged vehicles and cleared the accident scene, averting further traffic disruption.

Three occupants one male and two females sustained varying degrees of severe fracture injuries. Through the coordinated intervention of LASTMA officers and other emergency responders, the victims were extricated from the wreckage and conveyed to El-Shaddai Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

The vehicles involved in the collision were a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota with registration number FGC 80 XE and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP.

The General Manager of LASTMA,  Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the professionalism and rapid response of the Agency’s emergency personnel. He admonished motorists, particularly operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, to subject their vehicles to comprehensive mechanical inspections before embarking on any journey, with particular emphasis on braking systems.
