Joan Laporta has been re-elected president of FC Barcelona after defeating challenger Victor Font in the club’s latest election.

The 63-year-old secured a decisive victory on Sunday, winning 68.18 per cent of the vote against Font’s 29.78 per cent. About 42 per cent of the club’s members took part in the ballot, translating to 48,480 votes cast.

“This result makes us very happy and gives us a lot of strength, a lot, so much that it leaves us speechless,” Laporta said after the outcome was announced.

Voting booths were set up at Camp Nou and across several Catalan cities including Girona, Tarragona and Lleida, as well as in Andorra. Several first-team players and coach Hansi Flick cast their votes after Barcelona’s 5-2 victory over Sevilla FC earlier in the day.

Laporta said the club’s immediate focus would include completing the ongoing reconstruction of Camp Nou, which is now expected to be finished in 2027, a year later than initially planned.

“No one will stop us. I am sure that in the coming years, as I’ve said to you, we have some thrilling times ahead,” he added.

Laporta previously led Barcelona between 2003 and 2010, overseeing one of the club’s most successful periods, including the historic 2009 treble under coach Pep Guardiola and the rise of club legend Lionel Messi.
