Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has called for the cancellation of local government elections holding across the state over alleged irregularities.

She made the call while addressing the media at polling unit, PU 19, Iru-Victoria Island local council development area on Saturday.

Bucknor-Akerele alleged that there is a plot to rig the election, noting that many voters have been unable to vote in the polls because their names have been excluded from the register.

She said, “The observation is that obviously, they have planned to rig this election because people have not been able to vote in their units.

“When you get to your unit, they said they have given them a list of names.

“I have been to my own unit. My name is not there.”

Bucknor-Akerele alleged that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has disrupted the polling units.

She said a unit that was supposed to be in front of Eko Hotels and Suites on Ahmadu Bello Way was abruptly relocated to Ajose Adeogun Street, creating mass confusion.

“Many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units,” she said.

The ex-deputy governor added, “I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party.

“Otherwise, why is it that people are unable to vote in their units? Why is it that units are being disrupted?”
