The Lagos State Safety Commission has raised concerns over increasing overcrowding in various clubs and lounges across the city.
Mr. Lanre Mojola, the Director General/CEO of the Safety Commission, emphasised the importance of complying with authorised occupancy limits, which are crucial for ensuring safety.
While supporting the city’s vibrant nightlife and the economic benefits it brings, Mojola highlighted that overcrowding poses serious safety risks, including fire hazards, blocked emergency exits, smoking in public spaces, and a heightened risk of accidents.

These dangers affect not only patrons but also staff and the general public.
He urged all hospitality venue owners and operators to adhere strictly to the safety guidelines and occupancy limits set by the commission, stressing that these measures are in place to protect everyone’s well-being.
The commission stated that it has already begun conducting thorough inspections to ensure compliance, and establishments found violating safety regulations will face immediate closure and possible legal consequences.
Mojola also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all stakeholders in fostering a safe and enjoyable environment, stating, “Let us work together to keep Lagos safe and thriving.”
