The Lagos State government has announced the arrival of three new train sets, comprising a total of 12 coaches, for the Blue Line Rail project.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared the update on his verified X account on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, highlighting the development as a major step towards improving public transportation in the state.
According to the governor, the new trains will significantly reduce waiting times and enhance passenger comfort on the Blue Line, which currently operates a 13-kilometre stretch between Marina and Mile 2.
“This means shorter wait times and more comfortable trips for everyone using the Blue Line. It’s a step forward in our efforts to make the daily commute in Lagos less stressful and more reliable,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to extending the Blue Line from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, with a completion target set for 2026 and full operations expected by early 2027.
“I know it’s been a long time coming, but I truly believe we’re building something that will change how we move around this city for the better,” he added, while thanking residents for their patience and continued support.
The Blue Line is part of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) project, aimed at easing traffic congestion and providing a modern alternative to road transportation across the state.
