The new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, has called for enhanced collaboration between the Assembly, the executive arm, and the judiciary in the pursuit of good governance.
During her inaugural plenary session on Friday, Hon. Meranda emphasised her commitment to working harmoniously with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other government arms to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Lagos.
She highlighted transparency, inclusion, and good governance as key priorities during her tenure.
Meranda described her time as speaker as the beginning of a new chapter for the House, one focused on creating a unified and effective administration. She pledged to foster a collaborative governance model, ensuring every Lagos resident, regardless of background, feels proud to be part of the state.
In her address, the speaker acknowledged the sacred responsibility of the assembly and emphasised the need for collective effort to improve Lagos. “We are the guardians of the collective trust of Lagosians. Our administration will focus on working together for a better Lagos,” she stated.
She underscored the importance of synergy between the legislative and executive branches, advocating for open communication and mutual respect to align legislative actions with the state’s developmental goals.
Meranda expressed confidence that such cooperation would enable the Assembly to leave a positive legacy for future generations.
At the sitting, the impeached Speaker, Obasa and other two other members of the House, Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin 2) and the former Majority Leader, Naheem Adams were absent.
