Lagos set to launch Omi Eko project to revolutionise water transportation

Lagos State Government is set to unveil the Omi Eko Project, a landmark initiative aimed at revolutionizing water transportation across the state.

The official launch will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Five Cowries Terminal in Falomo, marking a significant step forward in the state’s push for sustainable urban mobility.

Spearheaded by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), the Omi Eko Project is designed to enhance the safety, efficiency, and accessibility of water transport in Lagos.

It is also expected to ease road congestion and reduce the city’s carbon footprint.

According to Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, General Manager of LASWA, the launch event will bring together top government officials, development partners, and stakeholders from the transport and maritime sectors.

The programme will feature a virtual presentation highlighting the project’s key components, followed by a ceremonial unveiling by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“This project is not just about improving water transport—it’s about redefining the way Lagos moves,” Emmanuel said, describing Omi Eko as a long-term investment in modern water transport infrastructure, expanded ferry fleets, and enhanced passenger experience.

As part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s broader vision for a cleaner, smarter, and more connected Lagos, the Omi Eko Project is also expected to strengthen intermodal transportation links and create new economic opportunities.

The initiative forms a critical pillar in the state’s development agenda, contributing to the realization of ‘A Greater Lagos Rising’ through innovation, sustainability, and forward-thinking governance.
