Lagos Police warn against fake reports on Task Force

By Christopher Oji

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, AIG Olohundare Jimoh has warned against making false reports on  the Lagos State Task Force on the Environment  and Other related Offences.

The AIG waned that the police would prosecute anyone who publishes false reports against  the police and other units of the force.

At a press conference yesterday at his office , GRA  Ikeja, the AIG took a swipe on a  recent viral report of extortion against  Task  force by an online platform, saying that it was done to smear the image of the Agency that is doing a good job to maintain sanity on our roads .

AIG Jimoh stressed that the report against  Task Force was malicious and untrue, describing  the unit as very vital in the maintenance  of law and order in the state .

He said: ” The Lagos   State Task Force on the Environmental   Sanitation and Special Offences Enforcement has  been doing very great in this state  in ensuring that there is sanity on our roads and equally sanity in our offices and in every area  of our engagement throughout the state.

” The agency and other  complementary  organisations  are responsible for  ensuring orderliness in virtually all the public places in Lagos State  to ensure  that people don’t violate traffic rules without consequences and that people don’t occupy spaces  that are meant for public use and for public purposes and to equally ensure that people  don’t generally take laws  into their hands.

” Mind you, Lagos is a state of population of 23 to 25 million people  and there’s no other state that desire and needed orderliness like Lagos in this country  because of the huge population in Lagos.

” So if  Task Force is not working well, all of us will be  able to see it but I want to beat my chest and let the media and the public know that the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and those who are equally responsible for Special Offences Enforcement units are doing their best in the state and we are talking to you ,the media to help us impress it on the mind of all Lagosians on the need to be law abiding” .

”  But from Friday to the weekend, there’s a singular incident which went viral on  an online media platform. The handler of the online platform   is not new to the TaskForce  team.

” He at one time or the other intervened on behalf  of people that were arrested in the act of committing environmental sanitation offences and other special offences for which the task force is established to enforce and they have  all the time informed them that everybody must comply with the law and nobody is above the law , no matter how lowly place or highly place.

” I so much believe because of this sentiment for him  not to have his way, he had decided to go online to tarnish the good work of the Lagos State Task Force of Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Enforcement  unit by posting out videos  indicating that some of the task force personnel are collecting money which I  have directed a full  scale investigation into and found out that it’s not correct.

”  It’s far from the truth and it’s malicious in all righteousness. We want all news outfits, not only the online media, equally some  of our colleagues here to know that such a publication is malicious in its own entirety and members of the public should equally from this press conference know that what the online platform has said  is nothing but misdirecting the mind of the public and informing the public and equally malicious intention to deliberately cause aspersion on the good name of Task force.

”  So, I want  to state further that the Lagos state police command wishes to brief members of the media  and the general public on the circumstance surrounding the incident at Ikorodu , which I mentioned earlier on which resulted in the viral video involving  operatives of Lagos State security task force.

“Precisely at about 6:30 am of March 13,2026, on Friday, officers of the task force were on routine  patrol  on what we call the anti driving against traffic enforcement.

“People take the delight because of maybe some traffic   in one area of Lagos state, choose on their own,  to drive against traffic in another area. So they go there to ensure that people comply with this traffic regulation.

” The driver of the vehicle was intercepted when  he was trying to make a wrongful turn against traffic  in violation of  regulations of Lagos state.

” In an attempt to evade arrest, the driver reversed his vehicle  and ran into an oncoming commercial minibus that was going on his own direction, thereby, damaging  the bus and endangering the lives of those who were  inside the bus and equally the lives of police  that work with the Safer Highway Patrol of the Lagos State Police Command.

“This is a clear violations of the law. The safer highway patrol subsequently handed over the driver and the vehicle to the Lagos State Task Force  for further investigation and prosecution.

” The damaged minibus was equally towed to the  Task Force office in Oshodi while the suspect, who is now the offender in the matter was taken to Alausa for further investigation and for proper custody.

“During the enforcement,  the suspect visibly  resisted arrest and obstructed traffic causing gridlock and putting a lot of other women in Lagos and equally other people going to their means of livelihood into temporary lockage without being able to proceed to where they were  going. The gridlock  along this corridor paralysed traffic and other commercial activities in the area. The offender was charged to Court, granted bail, but he is yet to fulfill his bail condition . We have invited the poster of the viral video to come for discussion.”
