The quest to improve community policing, protection of lives and property got a boost when over 400 participants underwent two days undercover security training under the joint aegis of the Lagos State Police Command and Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative (ECAPI), a non-governmental organisation. The training was held at the Officers Mess, Police College, Ikeja.
The programme, which drew many security experts, with a theme, “Intelligence Gathering and Community Policing” was facilitated by three senior police officers – SP Aminu Abdulsalam, a Superintendent of Police (O/C, Surveillance); Kayode Olorunsola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Intelligence Analyst) and Usman Usaini a Deputy Superintendent of Police (O/C Intelligence Laboratory), among others.
Chairman of Police/ECAPI Training Programme, Prince Samuel Obinuga, a security expert, urged all stakeholders in security to take up the campaign against violence during forthcoming elections. He said that as a security organisation, ECAPI collaborates with other units of the armed forces in the country focusing on playing the role of being crime stoppers through effective intelligence gathering. He harped on the need to create awareness through door-to-door campaign against election violence.
In his remarks, the President of ECAPI, Ambassador Samuel Eniola Adam, stressed that, “security is everybody’s business, which should not be left to the government alone.”
He called on Nigerians to give useful information to security experts, noting that without information, police operatives cannot work effectively to combat crime, protect lives and property.
