Member representing Oshodi- Isolo federal constituency 2 in the House of Representatives, Hon.Okey-Joe Onuakalusi has assured his constituents of continued quality representation in the green chamber. Hon. Onuakalus, who is a Labour Party Rep, spoke in the Cele area of Lagos during the distribution of 60 grinding machines and 60 sewing machines he attracted to some of his constituents as part of his empowerment programme. He told the beneficiaries that he would never be tired of empowering people in the federal constituency to better their lives economically, describing the empowerment as part of his election promises during his electioneering campaign.
Reelling out a plethora of the socio- economic and infrastructural projects he has attracted to the Oshodi- Isolo federal constituency 2 since he was elected, Onuakalusi, represented by his Special Assistance on Political and Cultural Affairs, Chief John Onyebuchukwu Uche, pledged that he would at all times demonstrate to the people of Oshodi- Isolo federal constituency|| and Lagosians the difference in governance by being responsive to, and prioritizing their needs, disclosing that bigger and broader empowerment was underway.
Speaking, Engr. Walter Ukaga, Constituency Administrator and Special Assistant to Hon. Onuakalusi, said that his principal’s empowerment initiatives stemmed from his deep commitment to alleviating poverty and uplifting his constituents in Oshodi-Isolo federal constituency II. “His approach aligns with the Labour Party’s ideals of social democracy and grassroots development, as seen in his foundational work through The Honourable Okey Joe Foundation which focuses on youth/women empowerment, education, and health . His recent high-profile diplomatic engagements also reflect his belief that local development must be supported by global partnerships”, Engr. Ukaga said.
According to him, the distribution of the machines was part of broader efforts to foster self-reliance, particularly among women and low-income groups and expressed optimism that the empowerment programs will directly improve livelihoods by providing tools for income generation, reducing unemployment, and fostering community resilience. Politically, such initiatives reinforce Hon. Onuakalusi’s reputation as an accessible leader. “His constituents have already recognized his efforts with awards-Leadership Award from the Constituency Forum- and his proactive disaster response during floods further solidified trust . These actions no doubt will bolster his electoral appeal.
“Given his track record and constituent support, 2027 is a “win-win” scenario. His cross-party appeal and grassroots loyalty—evidenced by awards and relief efforts—suggest strong reelection prospects, even if party dynamics shift”, Ukaga added
On his part, Bishop Remigus Agu, Labour Party Chairman for Oshodi-Isolo local government area commended Hon. Onuakalusi’s achievements, describing him as a selfless, urbane and detribalised leader who cares for all his constituents irrespective of party affiliation and tribe.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Hon.Onuakalusi, assuring him of their votes come 2027. One of them, who identified herself as Remilekun said the grinding machine was like a life saver to her and thanked the Rep member for the gesture. Another beneficiary, Mrs Grace Asobi- Peter who got a sewing machine, said it was a big economic boost for her.
