Lagos State Government, through the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), has expressed shock over the collapse of a bungalow classroom block at Odokekere High School, Ikorodu, which occurred on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the committee, the state government described the incident as unfortunate but clarified that the affected classroom block had already been marked for demolition prior to the collapse.

According to SCRPS, the building was slated to be pulled down to make way for the construction of a more befitting classroom edifice capable of accommodating the school’s growing student population.

The committee also confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident, adding that all students were safe and in good condition.

Following the development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the immediate relocation of the affected students to nearby schools to ensure that their academic activities are not disrupted.

Meanwhile, SCRPS disclosed that a team of its officials would visit Odokekere High School to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

The visit, the committee said, is aimed at enabling the government to finalise modalities for the immediate construction of an ultra-modern classroom block to cater for the increasing population of students at the school.
