Preparations for the 2026 Lagos Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Media Games have received a major boost, with Nestlé Nigeria Plc becoming the first corporate organisation to support the competition under the Supporting Packages category.
Nestlé Nigeria provided some of its products for the week-long sporting event scheduled to hold from October 5 to 10, 2026, at the Agege Local Government Area playground, Lagos.
Speaking on the company’s support, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Lead, Nestlé Nigeria Plc, Victoria Uwadoka, said the gesture reflected the company’s commitment to promoting healthy living, physical activity and its Creating Shared Value approach.
According to her, supporting the Media Games provides an opportunity for the company to advance its commitment to enhancing quality of life while contributing to the wellbeing of journalists.
She said: “As a company, our commitment is to unlock the power of food to enhance the quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come.
“We are excited to advance this commitment through initiatives such as the Lagos NUJ Media Games, which promote physical activity and wellbeing.
“We are also committed to our Creating Shared Value approach, through which we seek to create value for the stakeholders within our ecosystem who contribute in different ways to the sustainability and success of our business.
“The Nigerian Union of Journalists and the wider media community are part of this ecosystem, and we are pleased to support an initiative that aligns with our commitment to wellness while providing an opportunity to create shared value.”
The 2026 Lagos NUJ Media Games mark the return of the competition after an eight- to nine-year hiatus, with journalists from across Lagos expected to compete in various sporting events.
The games are aimed at providing journalists with an opportunity to take a break from the demands of the newsroom, engage in physical activity and strengthen relationships among media practitioners.

Chairman of the Lagos NUJ Council, Adeleye Ajayi, commended Nestlé Nigeria for being the first organisation to respond to the council’s appeal for support.
Ajayi said the council had written to several organisations seeking assistance for the games, adding that Nestlé was the first to respond positively.
“Nestlé has been at the forefront of media friendliness. We sent out a lot of letters, but Nestlé is the first among those we approached to respond to our request.
“I am not surprised that they could package us with these products for our Media Games. That is why I want to sincerely thank the management of Nestlé,” he said.
Ajayi said the games were designed not only to promote healthy living among journalists but also to encourage social interaction and strengthen professional relationships within the media community.
“We cannot be in the newsroom all the time. We have to shed weight and exercise our bodies for physical fitness. That is what the games are meant to achieve.
“It is also about social interaction. Friends and colleagues whom you have not seen for some time will meet again on the field. The competition and excitement that come with it cannot be overemphasised. It is once a year,” he said.
He appealed to other corporate organisations and stakeholders to support the Media Games and other initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare and wellbeing of journalists.
The return of the Lagos NUJ Media Games is expected to provide journalists with an opportunity to combine sporting competition with camaraderie, while promoting physical fitness and stronger bonds across the media industry.
