A female motorist has died in a lone road traffic crash at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, along one of Lagos’ busiest corridors, after she reportedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a roadside building.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed that the deceased was driving a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB when the fatal accident occurred. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
According to the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, preliminary findings indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the carriageway before ramming into a roadside building. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in her death at the scene.
Bakare-Oki said LASTMA officers on routine patrol swiftly responded to the incident by deploying safety cones around the crash site, managing traffic flow and coordinating the safe evacuation of the damaged vehicle to prevent secondary accidents and minimise traffic disruption.
He added that security operatives from the Afonka Police Post, under the Shasha Divisional Police Headquarters, provided adequate security throughout the emergency response and evacuation exercise until the operation was successfully concluded.

Describing the tragedy as a painful reminder of the dangers associated with excessive speeding and reckless driving, the LASTMA General Manager urged motorists to comply strictly with speed limits and all traffic regulations while on the road.
He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility and appealed to drivers to prioritise caution over haste.
“Every journey must be undertaken with prudence, patience and an unwavering commitment to established traffic regulations. No destination is worth the ultimate sacrifice of human life. Excessive speed remains one of the foremost causes of fatal road traffic crashes and motorists must, at all times, exercise the highest degree of caution, restraint and responsibility while behind the wheel,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are mechanically fit before embarking on any trip, noting that any indication of mechanical defects should be promptly addressed to reduce the risk of avoidable crashes.
LASTMA extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of her soul and urging all road users to learn from the unfortunate incident by embracing safer driving habits.
