Lagos govt speaks on Olopo Meji flooding, assures commuters

By John Ogunsemore, Lagos

The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Barr Tokunbo Wahab, has shared information on Wednesday morning’s heavy flooding at Olopo Meji inward Third Mainland Bridge.

Viral videos circulating on social media show cars almost submerged in water at Olopo Meji following torrential rainfall.

It was learnt that the situation caused traffic congestion extending to Alapere.

Reacting, Wahab said the situation was a “flash flood” that is due to the long-duration rain coupled with high tidal lagoon level at the moment.

“Be rest assured it would go away in about 1-2hour.

“As the high tidal level of the lagoon goes down, the rain/stormwater will be able to discharge into the lagoon,” the commissioner said on X.
