The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it recorded 1,324 incidents between January and September 2026, with fire calls accounting for the majority of emergency responses.

The service disclosed this in its Third Quarter Activity Report covering January to September 2026, while urging residents to heighten fire safety consciousness as the dry season sets in.

According to the report, fire calls accounted for 1,135 of the 1,324 incidents. The service also responded to 79 rescue calls, 100 salvage operations, nine collapsed-building incidents and one gas-related explosion.

During the period, 210 victims were rescued alive, while 65 fatalities were recovered during emergency operations.

The Controller-General, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, said the statistics underscore the need for sustained vigilance, prompt reporting of emergencies and strict compliance with fire safety regulations.

She disclosed that an estimated N79.44 billion worth of property was saved during the period, while estimated losses stood at N13.24 billion, bringing the total value of properties affected to N92.68 billion.

A monthly breakdown showed that January recorded the highest number of incidents with 203, followed by March with 201, while September recorded the lowest with 94 incidents.

Similarly, March recorded the highest number of fire calls with 176, followed by January with 173, while September recorded the lowest with 80.

The service also recorded 341 false calls within the period, warning that false alarms delay response to genuine emergencies and put lives and property at risk.

Adeseye advised residents to avoid indiscriminate burning, ensure proper handling and storage of flammable materials, switch off and unplug electrical appliances when not in use, avoid overloading electrical sockets, maintain functional fire extinguishers and keep escape routes unobstructed.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the service to protecting lives and property through prompt response, prevention and public enlightenment, stressing that fire safety remains a shared responsibility.
