The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) on Wednesday donated bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and raincoats to the Lagos State Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said the donation demonstrates the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering commitment to building a proactive, collaborative and well-resourced security architecture capable of confronting emerging threats.
He said: “For Lagos, one of Africa’s largest economic hubs, security is not merely a law enforcement responsibility; it is a strategic investment in economic growth, investor confidence, social stability and human development.
“Recognising this reality, the Lagos State Government has deliberately built one of the country’s most robust public security support systems, ensuring that security agencies are not only empowered to respond to threats but are also equipped to protect officers who put their lives on the line daily for millions of residents.
“Under the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the LSSTF has continued to deepen that partnership by providing critical operational logistics, equipment and welfare support to security agencies safeguarding Nigeria’s commercial capital. From patrol vehicles and communication equipment to specialised operational assets and protective gear, the Fund has remained at the forefront of strengthening the capacity of law enforcement institutions, reinforcing Lagos’ reputation as one of the safest and most investment-friendly states in the country.”
During his visit to the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command, Ogunsan assured the Assistant Commander-General of Narcotics (ACGN), Wali Liman Abubakar, and officers of the command of the state government’s continued commitment to their safety, welfare and operational effectiveness in combating drug trafficking and abuse.
Addressing the officers, Ogunsan commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for providing the leadership and political will behind the state’s sustained investment in security.
“Let me commend the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in whose authority I am here today. He is the brain behind all that we do for security agencies in Lagos. My visit here is to celebrate excellence. I am celebrating the governor who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to security in Nigeria. Lagos remains the safest state in the country,” he said.
Ogunsan also praised the leadership of ACGN Wali, describing the Lagos NDLEA Strategic Command as one of the best in the country.
“Since his assumption of office, we have witnessed remarkable achievements. The passion and energy with which he carries out his responsibilities brought me here today. You are playing a crucial role in the Lagos security architecture, and we are proud to partner with you,” he added.

Explaining the rationale behind the donation, Ogunsan said the protective equipment would enhance officers’ safety and improve operational efficiency.
“We have brought these bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and raincoats so that you can do more and achieve more. They will enhance your safety during patrols and operations. We want all the vital organs of our officers protected. Please make good use of these items. We remain open to further collaboration,” he said.
He also warned criminal elements against operating in Lagos.
“This is a warning to anyone who intends to cause trouble. Lagos is not a place for criminals. We will accept nothing short of safety and security. Lagos is security-conscious and will not harbour criminals. We are monitoring activities on land, at sea and in the air,” he said.
Responding, the Commander of the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command, ACGN Wali Liman Abubakar, thanked the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for the donation.
“I want to thank Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, for donating these bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets and 100 raincoats. These items will greatly enhance the safety and welfare of our officers, especially during the rainy season,” he said.
He also presented a souvenir to Ogunsan and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illicit drugs through enforcement and public enlightenment.
“I want to assure Lagos residents that the NDLEA will continue to strengthen advocacy and intensify efforts to reduce drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state,” he said.
The presentation underscored the Lagos State Government’s commitment to strengthening security through strategic partnerships, improved officer welfare and sustained investment in operational capacity.
