The Lagos Country Club Ikeja came alive with excitement and energy as children, parents, and guests gathered to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day with a swimming competition. Organised by the Swimming Section of the club, the event brought together young swimmers of various age groups in a festive atmosphere filled with joy, cheers, and a strong sense of community.
Ayodeji Oshikoya, the Chairman of the Swimming Section, described the event as a meaningful contribution to Children’s Day celebrations and a reflection of the club’s core values. “This is our own way of celebrating with the children,” he stated. “Lagos Country Club is a family-oriented club where children and adults are equally recognised. Today, we’ve created an environment for everyone to come together and enjoy. During the competition, all the contestants are considered winners. There are no losers because we are one big family.”
Oshikoya further explained that the swimming competition is aimed at promoting unity, health, and fun. “It’s not just about the sport, but about coming together to celebrate families, recognize talents, and share happy moments,” he said.
Wale Fafore, the Chief Executive Officer of CinqTech, the sponsor of the event, emphasized the importance of engaging children in meaningful activities. “Swimming is one of the most important sports in the world,” he said. “We’re doing this on Children’s Day not just to celebrate them, but to inspire them to develop interest in sports. This is also our way of giving back to society. We all know that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Sports keep children focused and reduce the chances of them getting involved in social vices.”
The competition featured several categories based on age, and winners were recognised with medals and cheers.
With families cheering from the sidelines and young swimmers diving in with determination and enthusiasm, the event was a true celebration of youth, sportsmanship, and community spirit.
The Lagos Country Club continues to uphold its tradition of fostering unity, nurturing talent, and bringing people together, one splash at a time.
