Lagos businessman abducted by gunmen in Imo

Umuoma Nekede community in Owerri West council of Imo State is in the grip of panic following the abduction of a Lagos-based businessman by unidentified gunmen.

It was learnt that the victim, identified as Umunna Onyeokwu, a native of Umuikea, Umuoma, was said to be inside his car parked within his family compound when three armed men swoop on him, dragged him out of his car and whisked him away with their vehicle.

Daily Sun reliably gathered from a native of the community on Tuesday that the ugly incident which happened last Sunday evening had thrown the entire into fear and panic.

The community source, who pleaded anonymity, said: “Umunna who is Lagos Based Businessman just returned to the village last week and, so on Sunday evening he had gone to play football at the Central primary school. He was not aware that he was been trailed by men.

“So when he parked his car near his house and was trying to come out of the car, the men immediately walks towards him and pointed a gun at him ordering him to get out back to his car. Immediately they forced him into their car and zoomed off,” the source said.

It was also learnt that the businessman’s abductors are yet to contact his family.

gathered that the kidnappers have not contacted the family.

According to a source close to the family, “we have not made contact with the abductors. We are pleading for his release.

“We are dumbfounded because such a thing has not happened in our community before. We have not heard or seen abductors coming into a compound to kidnap people before.”

But when contacted, Michael Abbattam , Spokesperson of the Imo state Police command for confirmation, said he is yet to be briefed about the incident by the Divisional Police Officer of Nekede .
