Says parties should eye 2031 instead

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised opposition parties to abandon any hopes of unseating the ruling party in the upcoming 2027 elections and instead redirect their energies toward preparing for 2031.

In a statement issued by Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo, the party described the opposition’s current posture as disorganised, unrealistic, and unworthy of serious democratic consideration.

He said, “it is quite laughable that the same opposition is still desperately shopping for alliances and coalitions just days before the commencement of party primaries. The last-minute scramble raised questions about whether the opposition was treating the electoral process as “a political lottery fueled by little more than wishful thinking.”

The party pointed to the outcome of recent off-season elections as evidence that Nigerians remain firmly behind the APC’s leadership and developmental agenda, arguing that the results reflect a clear public endorsement of the ruling party’s direction.

Lagos APC accused the opposition of wasting time contesting what it called “settled mandates” through rhetoric and distractions, rather than focusing on genuine internal rebuilding. The party urged opposition elements to use the period leading up to 2031 for reflection, structural reforms, and the development of policy alternatives capable of resonating with voters.

The party also called on all political actors in Lagos to prioritise the state’s peace, stability, and progress above partisan interests, while urging the opposition to engage constructively and respect electoral outcomes.
