Awaits Supreme Court judgment
Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Barrister Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has faulted the release of the party’s presidential candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that its flagbearer, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, was not uploaded as the party’s candidate.
The Abure faction of the party held a parallel primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections, where Prince Ahanotu emerged as the factional presidential candidate.
Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, in a press statement on Monday, however, stated that the factional group is hopeful of victory at the Supreme Court, noting that the apex court is the final arbiter, while urging party faithful to remain calm.
“The statement reads in part: Since the publication by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) listing a presidential candidate for the Labour Party, I have been inundated with calls and messages from party members, supporters, stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians expressing concern and seeking clarification.
“I understand these concerns.
“To the millions of Nigerians who have embraced our Future Now vision, I wish to state clearly: remain calm, remain united, and remain hopeful.
“The issues surrounding the Labour Party presidential nomination are presently before the Supreme Court of Nigeria. As responsible democrats who believe in constitutional governance and the rule of law, we have submitted ourselves to the authority of the nation’s highest court and await its final judgment with confidence and respect.
“The publication by INEC should therefore be viewed within the context of an ongoing judicial process. It does not diminish our confidence in the judicial system, nor does it alter our unwavering commitment to the democratic process.
“Throughout history, every great democracy has been strengthened not by moments of convenience but by respect for its institutions. Today is another opportunity for us to demonstrate maturity, patience, and faith in the rule of law.
“I therefore urge every member of the Labour Party, every volunteer, every coordinator, every supporter of the Future Now movement, and indeed every Nigerian who believes in our shared vision, to remain peaceful, disciplined, and focused.
“Do not be discouraged by speculation.
“Do not be distracted by misinformation.
