The Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University Malete, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, tragically passed away on Wednesday night while watching the semi-finals match between Nigeria and South Africa in the ongoing AFCON tournament.

Nigeria emerged victorious in the match against South Africa with a score of 4-2 goals on penalties after regulation and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sources close to the deceased, speaking anonymously, revealed that Abdullahi had been at a sports center in the Sango area when he started feeling unwell.

One source recounted, “The Deputy Bursar watched the Nigeria/South Africa match from start to finish, until it was time for penalty kicks. He complained of feeling dizzy and expressed the need to return home and rest, unaware that his blood pressure had risen.”

“After returning home, he collapsed and was swiftly taken to a private hospital in Sango. Unfortunately, he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where he passed away before receiving medical attention.”

Abdullahi was laid to rest on Thursday morning in accordance with Islamic customs. The university community mourns the loss of a valued colleague and extends heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
