The Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, and the Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, have extended warm Christmas and New Year greetings to Christian faithful and Nigerians at large, while also rolling out food distribution programmes to support constituents during the festive season.

In his Christmas message, Senator Ashiru heartily felicitated Nigerians, particularly Christians in Kwara South, on the celebration of Christmas and the New Year, urging them not to lose sight of the true essence of the season.

According to him, Christmas serves as a reminder of the birth of Jesus Christ and the ideals He lived for, including humility, peace, love, tolerance and self-sacrifice.

“The birth of Jesus Christ is a great example of humility. He lived and preached peace, love, tolerance and self-sacrifice, and left mankind with the hope of eternal joy. These virtues transcend religion and should be embraced by all Nigerians, especially as we confront the challenges of nation-building and development,” Ashiru said.

The Deputy Senate Leader also called on Nigerians to remember the weak and vulnerable in society, stressing that the season demands compassion, generosity and collective responsibility towards one another.

He further wished Nigerians journey mercies as they travel to celebrate with loved ones and urged all to celebrate the festivities with moderation.

Similarly, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar marked the yuletide by commencing the distribution of 2,500 bags of rice to constituents across the five local government areas of Kwara North Senatorial District Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Moro and Patigi.

The annual initiative, according to the Senator, is aimed at easing the burden on families and ensuring that constituents are able to celebrate the festive season with joy, dignity and a sense of inclusion, especially amid prevailing economic challenges.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Senator Sadiq reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the people of Kwara North, noting that Christmas and New Year celebrations provide an opportunity to give back and stand in solidarity with constituents.

He urged beneficiaries to celebrate in love, care for one another, and use the season to pray for sustained peace, unity and development in Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.

In a separate Christmas message, Senator Sadiq also extended warm greetings to Christians across Kwara North, Kwara State and the country, describing Christmas as a sacred season of love, peace and renewed hope for humanity.

“Christmas reminds us of the enduring values of love, humility, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence. These virtues are fundamental to building a just, united and prosperous society, especially at a time when our nation yearns for healing, understanding and collective progress,” he stated.

The Senator commended the Christian community for their consistent prayers for peace, stability and national cohesion, as well as their contributions to community development and nation-building.

He reaffirmed his commitment to people-oriented representation, inclusive governance and policies that promote peace, social harmony and sustainable development across Kwara North Senatorial District.

Community leaders and beneficiaries across the affected local government areas have described the food distribution exercise as timely and thoughtful, applauding the Senators for what they called people-centered leadership and genuine concern for constituents.
