Kwara state Local Government Service Commission has blamed the none recruitment local of government health workers on embargo placed on employment by the previous administration.

The commission added that employment of primary health workers at the local government level had been embargoed since 2013.

Chairman of the commission Alhaji Umar Shero said this at the weekend in Shao, Moro Local Government Area of the state at the 14 convocation ceremony of Bartholomew College of Health Technology.

Represented by Director, Training in the ministry, Alhaji Kpatako Abubakar, Shero said that the commission had written a letter to the state Governor AbdulRaman Abdulrazaq for the lifting of the embargo, saying that as soon as approval is granted products of the college would be considered for employment.

According to Shero: “It is heart rending to produce reliable workforce in a sensitive area such as the health sector, only for them to run to some other climes in search of better working condition while we suffer the inadequacies here. As much as I do not put the blame on the door steps of health worker, I strongly appeal to them to bear with government as it makes efforts to improve on our working condition.

“I must state clearly that I know the relevance of these health workers particularly those of you who graduate from this college.

“Your role in primary healthcare cannot be under estimated across the local and state governments. You deal with the majority of population and must realize that by the virtue of working to save lives, you are like assistants to the Almighty the giver of life.

“Consequent on the above, you should also imbibe the compassion and tolerance of God in carrying out your responsibilities.”

Earlier, Proprietor of the college, Bartholomew Owoicho disclosed that the institution had in the last 13 years produced 2,500 different categories of health workers.

He put the number of the 2021/2022 graduands at over 200.
