More details have emerged about how terrorists besieged Worro and Nuku communities in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday, killing scores of residents.

In an X post on Wednesday, the state government confirmed that ’75 local Muslims were massacred simply for refusing to surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine’.

This is just as Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq stormed the local government last night for an on-the-spot assessment.

On Wednesday, a younger brother to the traditional ruler of Woro, Mr Ali Umar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the attackers invaded his community shortly after 5:00 p.m.

According to him, the assailants stormed the community on motorcycles and opened fire from different directions.

He said this caught off all escape routes, maximising the casualty.

Umar said, “They came around 5:00 p.m. and completely surrounded the community.

”They started shooting sporadically from all angles so nobody could escape.”

He explained that the attackers shot those trying to flee while those who did not run where herded to the village head’s palace before being rounded up, tied up and shot.

He further disclosed that many other persons remain missing and presumed abducted, including the wife of the traditional ruler of the community, Hauwa Umar, his mother and three of his children.

Umar said the community has been deserted.

“The people were scared, and the community is now nearly empty.

”What we need now is increased security presence to restore confidence and allow people to return.”
