Residents of Ningurume community in Gwanara District, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, have expressed joy and gratitude following the completion of a long-abandoned road project facilitated by the Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar (3SU).

The rehabilitated road, which reconnects Ningurume to neighbouring communities, had for years remained impassable, crippling economic and social activities in the area. Its poor condition had isolated residents, restricted movement, and limited access to markets, healthcare and other essential services.

With the completion of the project, mobility has been restored and economic activities revived, as the road serves as a major economic artery linking Gwanara and surrounding communities.

Community leaders who spoke to the SUN on Tuesday described the intervention as timely and impactful. A community elder, speaking on behalf of residents, said:

“This road means everything to us. For many years, our people suffered because we were cut off from other communities. Today, we can go to the market, our children can move freely, and our businesses can breathe again. Senator Sadiq has truly remembered us.”

Another resident noted that the project has renewed hope in the community, stating:

“We are grateful because this is not just a road; it is life for our people. It has brought development closer to us and shown that our voices are being heard.”

Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, while reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development, emphasized that opening up rural communities remains a priority of his representation.

“My duty is to serve the people and ensure that no community is left behind. Roads are critical to development, and I will continue to facilitate projects that improve the lives and livelihoods of our people,” he said.

The road project also aligns with ongoing efforts by the Kwara State Government to improve rural infrastructure. According to stakeholders, the intervention complements the development agenda of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, particularly in enhancing connectivity and inclusive growth across the state.

Residents of Ningurume concluded the celebration by pledging their continued support for initiatives aimed at improving living conditions across Kwara North.
