…urges INEC to recognize to obey court orders on the party’s dispute

From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

The Boniface-led faction of the New Nigeria People Party(NNPP) has urged the Independence National Electoral Commission(INEC) to comply with the subsisting court orders recognizing their faction as the authentic owners and bearers of the NNPP

Kano State Chairman of the party, Senator Masu’d el Jilbreen Doguwa, who spoke to journalists in Kano during a press conference, dismissed the faction led by the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as irregular, illegal, and illegitimate

Doguwa listed three court judgments delivered in their favour on the proprietorship of the NNPP to include that of Justice MA Hassan of an Abuja High Court, Justice Bello Kawu of Abuja High Court and Justice CU Okoroafor of an Abia High Court.

He reiterated that Kwankwaso is not the leader of their party nor the proprietor of the NNPP as is enormously assumed, adding that the former Governor ceased to be a major stakeholder of the party, soon after the 2023 general elections when he featured as their Presidential flag-bearer.

He said that the NNPP in the state was ready to welcome any of its members who wished to retain their membership in their individual capacity but would not welcome  members who wished to operate as Kwankwasiyya Movement within the NNPP.

On Governor Abba’s rumoured defection, Doguwa stated that the Governor was still a bona -fide member of the NNPP as at date as they have not received any letter in writing regarding his resignation.

“Abba Kabir is still a member of the NNPP and we as his party members owe him a lot of respect. However, if he wants to defect to another party, he should just follow the right process and procedure.

“He should formally tender his resignation letter to the Chairman of the NNPP in the NNPP at his ward-which we are yet to receive” he stated.

He cautioned that, “If eventually the Supreme Court affirmed the Boniface -led faction as the authentic owners of the party, Governor Abba might be faced with a big issue if he did not resign from the NNPP led by Boniface.

“This is because in the eyes of the law, he would still be regarded as a member of the NNPP. And it will be presumed and executed that he did not resign from his previous party” he stated .
