The National Leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has decried the level of poverty in Northern Nigeria, urging the Federal Government to exhibit fairness and equity in the distribution of national resources.
Kwankwaso spoke at the stakeholders’ engagement meeting organized by the Kano State Government ahead the North-West public hearing by the Senate Committee on the review of the 1999 constitution.
He also tasked the State Assembly and National Assembly members from the state and the North to be on the alert and.well articulated in their representation of the region’s position during the Constitution review exercise.
Kwankwaso cited the state of Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Express way, which construction commenced several years ago but has not been completed
“Let me advise the Federal Government on the distribution of federal resources.
From the information available to us, it is like most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country,” he said.

“Let me advise those who are struggling by all means to take everything to remember that some of the issues that we have in this part of the country today have to do with lack of enough resources and mismanagement of the little that comes in.
“That is why we have insecurity, we have poverty, and so on. It is happening here mainly, but like a desert, it would go everywhere,” he added.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his remarks, described Nigeria’s Constitution as a supreme law that its contents must reflect the aspirations and positions of every part of the country.
According to him, “We are here to make sure that the voices of our people are reflected in the laws that govern our nation. As you know, constitutional amendments give us great opportunity to addressing long standing issues and ensure that they meet the needs of our people.
“I hope that by the end of our discussion today, we will reach a non-partisan consensus that will withstand the test of time.
Stakeholders at the event included the members of State and National Assembly, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Media, business community, traditional and religious leaders, women leaders, market leaders, students’ union leaders, labour and professional organizations such as NLC, TUC, NBA, NIA, NUJ, NURTW, NUT, NMA, were fully represented during the meeting.
