Kwankwasiyya gathering shook APC — Aliu

Kwankwasiyya gathering in Kano

By Lawrence Agbo

Folashade Aliu, the 2023 National Campaign Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has said the recent Kwankwasiyya gathering in Kano unsettled the All Progressives Congress, describing the ruling party’s reaction as an attempt to downplay its political significance.

Speaking on Prime Time on Arise News, Aliu noted that the event, which marked the 10th anniversary of the annual Kwankwasiyya gathering, has consistently demonstrated the strength and influence of the movement over the years.

According to her, the large turnout and presence of key political figures at the Kano event underscored its growing relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“This is the 10th anniversary of the gathering. It happens every year, and they know the power of the people at this gathering,” she said.

Aliu argued that the APC’s efforts to dismiss the event reflect underlying concern about the momentum of the Kwankwasiyya movement, particularly in northern Nigeria.

She added that the scale and profile of attendees made it difficult to ignore, reinforcing the NNPP’s claim of a strong grassroots base ahead of future political contests.
